Skin Cancer Checks
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. According to the Cancer Council NSW, about 2 out of 3 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer during their lifetime. In response, the Medical and Fitness Centre offers reliable walk-in access to professional skin cancer checks in Sydney for individuals seeking timely assessment and care.
What is skin cancer?
Skin cancer is the irregular growth of abnormal skin cells. It most commonly develops in areas frequently exposed to sunlight, particularly the face, scalp, neck, ears, arms and lips. However, it can also occur in places that are not regularly exposed to sunlight, including the palms, soles, under the nails or even the genital area.
Skin cancer is commonly classified into three main types:
- Basal cell carcinoma — Appears as a pearly or waxy bump, usually slow-growing and less likely to spread.
- Squamous cell carcinoma — Often forms as a rough, scaly patch or red nodule, and may become invasive if untreated.
- Melanoma — Usually dark and irregular in shape or colour, and is the most dangerous due to its potential to spread quickly.
Signs and symptoms
When left undetected, skin cancer can lead to serious health complications such as tissue damage, disfigurement or cancer spreading to other parts of the body. While each type has its presentation, here are common signs that warrant a visit to our skin cancer clinic in Sydney, NSW:

- A lump that’s shiny, firm or dome-shaped
