Flu Vaccine Penrith

We are one of the top medical centres Penrith that offer Iron infusions on the same day of your consultation with the doctor.

Iron is an essential element required for the oxygen carrying capacity of haemoglobin in red blood cells and muscle tissue. It is necessary for the maintenance of life in the human body.
If you don’t have enough iron, your body can’t make enough healthy oxygen carrying red blood cells that can even lead to iron deficiency anaemia.

Common signs of iron deficiency can be;

  • Feeling tired
  • Depression
  • Low energy levels
  • Dizziness or Fainting

Iron deficiency is very common in both men and women. However it tends to be more common amongst females. Many female athletes that are iron deficient will get an infusion to get their energy levels back to a healthy range.

Iron replacement therapy (Iron Infusion) is used to replenish your body’s iron stores and treat iron deficiency anaemia.

Your doctor will have a consultation with you before the treatment and explain how it works and the cost. If you are ready on the day then you can go ahead with the infusion.
2. A script will be given and you will purchase the iron medicine from the pharmacy.
3. Intravenous iron is injected into a vein in your arm through a Cannula. It can be given in two ways
By undiluted injection, directly into a vein in your arm via cannula
By diluted infusion, given directly into a vein in your arm via cannula

4. Your treatment time will be approximately 20 -60 minutes.
5. You will have to stay for another half an hour for observation after the treatment.

NB. If you have been referred from outside the clinic please bring your recent related blood test results and referral letter from your GP.

The time taken for haemoglobin levels to improve is different for everyone. It will depend on how iron deficient and anaemic you are and how efficient your bone marrow is at making red blood cells.

You may require another dose of iron infusion based on your body’s iron needs.

Your doctor will continue to check that the amount of iron in your body stays within the right range for you.
